The proposed Summerfield North BESS Project will comprise an up to 360 MW battery with up to 8 hours of storage duration - about enough to power 180,000 South Australian homes
Project update
The Summerfield North BESS Project is currently in the development stage. The Project is being developed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP).
The Project recently applied for a Hydrogen and Renewable Energy (HRE) Associated Infrastructure License from the South Australian Department for Energy and Mining (DEM). As part of the assessment, DEM will publish the Project’s environmental assessment documents for public comment. The Project expects DEM to publish these documents in the coming weeks and the documents to be on display for a 30-day period.
We will notify subscribers once DEM publishes the environmental assessment documents. You can subscribe to receive project updates via the link at the bottom of this page.
Community
We are committed to working with Traditional Custodians, communities and other stakeholders during development of the Summerfield North BESS Project. The team has been engaging with stakeholders since 2025 and will continue working closely with stakeholders to understand how we can work together to support local people and businesses during construction and operation of the Project.
Subject to the Project receiving approvals and progressing to construction, we will establish a Community Benefit Fund that will support local initiatives and deliver a lasting legacy in the area. We will seek input from stakeholders in the design of the fund and be transparent about how the fund is delivered.
Location
The Summerfield North BESS site is located in Tepko, around 55km east of Adelaide in South Australia. The site is next to the recently constructed Summerfield Battery.
